Winter Solstice 2011. Depending on where you live in the world today, June 21st is the summer or winter solstice for 2011. For those of us in the Northern hemisphere today marks the longest day of the year. This is when the sun reaches its northernmost point. Not only is it the longest day of the year today but the summer solstice 2011 also marks the change of the season from Spring to Summer.

For those living in the Southern hemisphere today is your winter solstice for 2011. This is when the sun reaches its Southernmost point in the sky and this is also the transition from the fall to the winter season. Today will be the shortest day of the year, and the longest night. Our winter solstice for us in the Northern hemisphere will take place on December 22nd, 2011.
